VOLUNTEER...You can make a difference.

Volunteering is easy and takes as little as 1-2 hours per month.

Volunteer Application
Volunteers are the heart of Meals On Wheels.  The work we do would not be possible without the help of our volunteer family.  By volunteering just an hour or two of your time -  delivering a hot meal and a smile -  YOU can make a big difference in the lives of those who need it right in your own community.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
WE HAVE MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO DELIVER MEALS THOUGH OUT ALL OF WAYNE, BUT ESPECIALLY NEWARK, LYONS, MARION, ONTARIO, WILLIAMSON AND SODUS
PLEASE CALL US TO FIND OUT HOW FUN AND EASY IT IS TO HELP NEIGHBORS IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

INDIVIDUAL DRIVERS:
Interested in delivering food & friendship to your home-bound neighbors?  Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday at various locations throughout Wayne County. A meal delivery route takes one hour or less to complete during the lunch hour.  Volunteering is a great opportunity for retirees, shift workers, stay at home moms and anyone looking to make a difference. Volunteers can work as little or much as they like - whatever fits with your schedule. If you would like to join our team and do your part you can do one of following:

GROUP VOLUNTEERING - ADOPT A ROUTE PROGRAM:
We are developing an
Adopt-A-Route program  to expand our volunteer base by tailoring the volunteer commitment to fit the needs of volunteers in the workplace.  This is also ideal for a group who would like to share a weekly or monthly lunchtime commitment by adopting a Meals-On-Wheels route. Groups may include local businesses, community groups or church groups. Eight or more employees from an area employer/group agree to participate in meal delivery (with the employer's blessing), with each employee delivering meals approximately one time a month.  Adopt-A-Route is an easy and affordable way for employers and employees to  to give back to the community.  It is a minimal time commitment, but results in great satisfaction of helping others and increasing the feeling of team spirit.

Questions & Answers:    These are answers to the most frequently asked questions.

1.  What is the time commitment?
Volunteers generally deliver in the towns where they live. It will take about 1 to 1-1/2 hours to do a route depending on how many clients are on the route      on a particular day. How many times you deliver in a month is completely up to you. Current volunteers do once a month, twice a month and once a week.

2.
What time of day are meals delivered?

Meals are delivered Monday - Friday between 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. (But you don't have to deliver everyday!)

3.  Where do the meals get picked up?

Meals are picked up at a central location in each town. Examples are Town Hall, Library or Senior Lunch Centers.

4.  What if my schedule changes and I am unable to deliver on a particular day?

You just let the office know as soon as you can and the staff will find a substitute for you.

5. What is the process to begin volunteering?

You will require your own vehicle and have current insurance. Contact our office or use the volunteer application below. Our Volunteer Coordinator will           then contact you. We will need your contact information, availability and 2 references.  We also require each volunteer to have a background check. This is     done through the Wayne County Sheriff's office in Lyons.

6. Is there training required?

Yes. A new volunteer comes to our office and has short training with our Volunteer Coordinator.  It takes a minimum of 30 minutes. A little longer                   depending on questions.  We also set you up to ride along with a current volunteer for your first time out.

7. What if a client needs assistance when I am delivering a meal?
Volunteers should call the office as soon as possible and we can assist with calling the clients family or emergency contact or if needed we will call 911.          More information will be provided during training.

8.  What happens in case of bad weather?

The Executive Director determines whether routes should be shut down for the day. This is posted on TV in the morning (just like a school closing) or the       office will call and let you know.

More will be covered during the training process.
